Editing and Writing

Everyone needs an editor, they say, and "they" are correct! I know: I've been an editor who found mistakes in even the most meticulous manuscripts, and as a writer I always have editors who finesse my stuff and make me look great.

My editing and writing services are listed below. Rates are based on the project, so just click here and let me know what you need. If you want a faster quote, paste a sample of your manuscript in the Comments box.

  • Critique
If you are happy with your finished manuscript but not sure if it's ready for an editor, I can offer you an assessment based on the work's strengths and weaknesses, and suggestions for improvement.
  • Proofreading
A writer who turns in a clean manuscript is a magazine or book editor's best friend. Proofreading is a basic-but necessary-service, including correction of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and common structural errors.
  • Copy Editing
This medium-level service includes everything from Proofreading above plus minor revision of problem areas such as sentence structure, transitions, and organization.
  • Substantive Editing
This is the most beneficial-and most often requested-service. Your manuscript will be edited with a fine-tooth comb, ranging from tone and point of view changes to major structural and stylistic finessing.
  • Ghostwriting
Got a great idea but no time to write it? I will compose your manuscript for you, working closely with you on every aspect of the project. The result will be a publishable manuscript, ready for an editor's review.

Audio Transcription

If you're working on a large project that involves interviews, conferences, dictation, focus groups or some other type of recorded information, I can transcribe it for you. I accept electronic files on CD or via email, as well as regular cassette tapes (no minis). The fee is negotiable based on the quality (clear to muddled) and quantity (number of hours) of what you need transcribed.

Satisfied Customers (yes, they are real people!)

"Working with Christy Scannell has been a writer's dream come true! She knows when to encourage, when to clarify a point and how to pull an entire project together. I've especially appreciated her vision for getting quality books and materials into the marketplace that capture readers' interests and minister to them powerfully at the same time. As I've collaborated with Christy on three books, I've become increasingly convinced that I'm in the hands of a consummate professional. Thank you, Christy, for your skills and your heart."

About "Celtic Media"

Wondering about the Celtic Media name? Here's the scoop: I used to own a local Irish newspaper with my now-husband, and Celtic Media was our corporate moniker. When the budding love in our hearts became more significant than the ink in our veins, we stopped printing and started dating. I liked "Celtic Media"-so I kept it for my freelance endeavors, and now it's my "official" company name. But don't worry: there will be no Guinness drinking or jig dancing while I am working on your project!
